The treatment procedure in this field is to increase the therapeutic effect of diseases that were difficult to treat with the previous method by obtaining cure, stabilization, and auxiliary treatment effects of the lesion. Furthermore, it contributes to the promotion of national health and ultimately improves human welfare.
Neurointervention encompasses treatment and researches about strokes caused by various cerebrovascular diseases, arterial stenosis occurring in the brain, head and neck, and spine, aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, arterial dissection, acute bleeding, hypervascular tumor, vertebroplasty, pain management, head and neck vascular diseases, spinal vascular disease, neonatal and pediatric vascular disease, and vasculitis. In addition, treatment guidelines for these diseases have been established and published in the “Neurointervention”, the official journal of KSIN, since 2006.
The Korean Society of Interventional Neuroradiology was founded in 1994 as a nationwide academy of medical specialists, medical scientists, and related practitioners majoring in interventional neuroradiology. Monthly case meeting, annual conference, and symposium are held regularly. In addition, a sub-committee of the society is formed to exchange academic-related information between members, share efforts to improve the quality of care, and to improve the medical treatment environment and provide accurate medical information to the public.
Since its establishment, the Korean Society of Interventional Neuroradiology has held several joint academic conferences with the Korean Society of Neuroradiology, Korean Neuroendovascular Society, Korean Stroke Society. In 2001, the 6th General Assembly and Conference of the World Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (WFITN) was successfully held in Seoul, and the 14th Asia-Australasian Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (AAFITN) was also successfully held in 2020. In addition, East Asian Conference of Neurointervention (EACoN) is held every year to promote friendship and academic exchange between Asian countries. Members have presented research topics at domestic and international academic conferences and publish numerous papers in leading academic journals around the world.
The Korean Society of Interventional Neuroradiology aims to realize world-class medical treatment in Korea with these academic achievements. In addition, with the spirit of having made ceaseless efforts with over 300 members nationwide and past presidency, we will continue to be a society for the best treatment for patients.
